Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri deployed a staff member this week to the east coast as part of a federal team responding to Superstorm Sandy. Andrea Minor left on the 12th and will spend two weeks communicating with volunteers and assisting with mobilizing food and water to those in need. Minor takes with her experience of working with survivors from the EF-5 Joplin tornado last May. She is in the Rockville Center, New York area. Charities spokeswoman Maureen Jersak tells KZIM KSIM this response is part of their mission. Jersak says they are ready to send additional staff to the East if they are requested through the federal team of disaster case managers. The local charities chapter has offices in Cape, Sikeston, Joplin and Springfield.
