A Jackson man pleads guilty to a reduced charge of involuntary manslaughter

Nov 20, 2012 -- 2:41pm

A Jackson man will not go to trial this fall for 2nd-degree murder.  23-year old Ryan Harkey was charged with stabbing 25-year-old Jerry Conrad to death outside of a downtown Cape bar last December.  Harkey pled not guilty before Judge William Syler in February.  The judge granted a change of venue to Franklin County before Judge Gael Wood.  Harkey entered a guilty plea Tuesday to a reduced charge of 2nd-degree involuntary manslaughter avoiding a trial set for December.  He will be sentenced January 28th and faces up to 4-years in state prison.  Conrad was employed at Ole Hickory Pits in Cape and is survived by three children and fiancée.  An autopsy showed he died from a 3-inch knife wound to his chest.
