A volunteer firefighter from Jackson charged with setting a house on fire pleads guilty to arson. 23-year-old Gordon Schafer was arrested August 19th, charged with 1st-degree arson. He set a home on fire on US Highway-61, the day before while the resident inside was sleeping. That home was next door to the Fruitland Fire Department. It was extinguished quickly. Police believe he set the fire randomly and the home occupant was not a target. Schafer posted a 25-thousand-dollar bond. He pleaded guilty Monday to Arson in the 2nd-degree before Judge William Syler in Jackson. He received 5-years supervised probation.
