This weekend La Croix Methodist Church will be hosting a special candle lighting service. This Sunday families who have lost a child are invited to the event as a way of honoring their memory. This is part of a nationwide program started 16 years ago by a group called The Compassionate Friends but is the first time it’s being held in Cape Girardeau. Facilitator Linda Logan tells KZIM-KSIM this is a tough time of the year for families. The service will consist of scripture readings, songs and the reading of the names of children who have passed away. It all starts at seven but families are encouraged to arrive early. More than 500 people across the nation are expected to participate along with observances in 19 other countries.
