Congresswoman JoAnn Emerson speaks on her memories of service and looks ahead to what is to come

Dec 11, 2012 -- 4:49pm

Congresswoman of the 8th District of Missouri JoAnn Emerson recently announced she will be leaving the House of Representatives to embark on a new career as the President and Chief Executive Officer of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. She says she has not lost her heart for service and in many ways will still speak on behalf of many rural electric customers in our area, but also all across America. She continues her insistence that she did NOT have this job in place in November or she may very have not run for re-election. KZIM KSIM asked Emerson what her proudest moments have been… She says a lot of bills were passed and voted on but her greatest memories and proudest moments were here at home with her constituents. She recalled a day at Schnuck's grocery store when a woman approached her and said "You're just like the rest of us! You come to the grocery store just like us. You're real!" And that was the best compliment she had ever received. Emerson will only be the fifth CEO in the history of the NRECA and the very first female! She was also the first female elected to Congress in the state of Missouri. She will leave her post as our representative the week of February 4th, 2013. (Good luck JoAnn!!!)
