A Southeast history professor runs for Cape city council

Dec 11, 2012 -- 11:29am

A Cape man who helped get Kathy Swan elected to the Missouri State House now wants to take over her seat on the city council.  44-year-old Wayne Bowen has picked up a petition from Cape city hall to run for the Ward-6 seat vacated by Swan at the end of the year.  She is going door-to-door with Bowen to help him collect signatures along with his two sons.  Bowen helped manage Swan’s campaign last summer.  He tells KZIM KSIM this is a great way to give back to Cape.  The 44-year-old Bowen is a history professor at Southeast Missouri State and is the current vice-president on the city planning and zoning commission.  He has already collected 35 of the 50 needed signatures to get on the ballot.  He plans to have them by the end of the week.  You have until January 15th to turn in a petition for the April election.  Swan has resigned her city council post effective January 8th.  She will be sworn-in the State House the next day.
