Next month newly elected Missouri House Representative Kathy Swan will be sworn into office leaving behind an empty seat for Cape Girardeau’s City Council. Southeast Missouri State University History Department Chair Wayne Bowen has his eye on that position. Bowen worked with Swan on her campaign and has been active in the local government. He tells KZIM-KSIM he already has ideas for the city including continued economic development. Currently Bowen serves as the Vice Chair for the zoning and planning committee. He is currently the only person running for the seat. Filing is open until January 15th and a special election will take place in April to fill the position.
