The local CASA Program receives a VISTA award

Jan 22, 2013 -- 5:44pm

The local Court Appointed Special Advocates or CASA are getting a much needed infusion of help from a ‘Volunteers in Service of America’ or VISTA grant. Executive Director Linda Nash tells KZIM KSIM this is made available as an Americorp Project that allows them to hire a full time person to help serve Cape Girardeau, Bollinger, and Perry Counties!! They will promote community awareness and focus on issues surrounding foster children. They will reach out to the community and heighten fundraising efforts, awareness and the program in general. Our CASA was chosen out of twenty-five programs statewide. Nash says they will begin interviewing in two weeks. The applicant must have a degree and at least 21 years old. They will hire this “paid-intern” position by March 1st. The person selected will receive some post service stipends, minimal medical benefits, childcare assistance, living allowance, and student loan deferment! For information go to SEMO-CASA-dot-org.
