Report a gun stolen, you have a better chance of it being returned

Jan 30, 2013 -- 7:54pm

The Cape Girardeau Police received a call over the weekend of a burglary of a residence, and included in the list of items missing were 2 shotguns.  Officer Darren Hickey tells KZIM-KSIM you should call police immediately if your firearm is stolen.  Hickey says that the police immediately take the serial numbers of guns stolen in burglaries and enter them into a database, in order to inform other law enforcement agencies of the crime.  Guns can best be tracked by their serial number, which should be stored in a separate location from the gun itself.  Hickey also says that protecting the public and law enforcement from stolen firearms is essential during this time that people are hyper aware of gun crimes.
