A Poplar Bluff man will be standing trial for the death of his father and severe injury of his mother for allegedly striking them with a baseball bat. 27-year-old Matthew D Jenkins appeared before Associate Circuit Judge John Bloodworth for a preliminary hearing on Thursday. After witness testimony, Bloodworth ordered a trial on felony first-degree assault, felony second-degree murder, and two felony counts of armed criminal action. Jenkins will be arraigned before Circuit Judge Michael Pritchett March 5. Jenkins allegedly beat his parents January 15th at their Poplar Bluff home and told police he was gone during the attack, but later admitted to the beating.
