The number of emergency sirens in Cape Girardeau will likely increase soon, and the new sirens will be placed in heavily populated areas to give advanced warning to as many people as possible. Assistant fire chief and emergency management coordinator for Cape Girardeau Mark Hasheider tells KZIM-KSIM that while they will add some, more can be done. Hasheider stresses the outdoor reach of the sirens, and the necessity for weather radios for all homes and businesses. The new sirens, part of City Council's capital improvements projects, are to be funded by money from Isle Casino Cape Girardeau. Hasheider says council initially set aside $150,000 for the project.
