A St. Louis man accused of assaulting a campus public safety officer and possession of marijuana was arraigned Tuesday before Judge Gary Kamp in Cape Girardeau County Court. 19-year-old Manik Rashid Webber Young with second-degree assault of a law enforcement officer and a misdemeanor of marijuana possession. The charge accuses Webber Young of nearly causing Southeast Missouri State University Department of Public Safety officer Kenton Martin to lose consciousness in an altercation Friday at Dearmont Hall on campus. Department of Public Safety director Doug Richards said Webber Young is not a student of the university. Judge Kamp scheduled a preliminary hearing for 11 a.m. March 13. Webber Young is in jail on a $15,000 bond.
