Truck flips, spills liquid nitrogen in Hopkins Co.

Mar 08, 2013 -- 10:13am

Workers have cleaned up a spill in western Kentucky where a truck flipped over, injuring the driver and leaving a couple thousand gallons of liquid nitrogen on the road.

WFIE-TV in Evansville, Ind., reports the truck was from Southern States in Clay, Ky., and was traveling on Dalton Road in Hopkins County when it turned over.

The station says rescuers pulled the driver from inside the truck, and he was sent to a hospital for treatment.

The liquid nitrogen that spilled is used in mildly corrosive fertilizer.

Authorities said 2,000 to 2,500 gallons leaked. Richland Fire Department cleaned the chemical off the road with approval of environmental officials.
