Cape Girardeau County commissioners Thursday voted to unanimously approve increased security coverage from the county sheriff's department in the courthouses. Two officers will be hired so the department's patrol division can keep watch over court facilities in Cape Girardeau and Jackson. The sheriff's office has hired no new personnel since 2007. Sheriff John Jordan said there is a need for officers to cover patrols at the courthouses, and the judges who serve in the county courts approached him with requests for security guards.
