Local student wins regional spelling bee

A local student will travel to Washington D.C. after winning a regional spelling bee. A Trinity Lutheran student will represent Southeast Missouri in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. Cape resident Jade Ray Samanta, won the trip by winning the 4th Annual Regional Spelling Bee in Poplar Bluff, sponsored by Three Rivers College.  Samanta survived a record-breaking 38 rounds and grabbed first place by correctly spelling the word "patently." Winning the regional competition earned him the expenses paid trip for him and a parent to the national competition in May.
