Additional funds to assist in meeting the needs of homeless individuals and families will soon be available in the City of Cape Girardeau, Cape Girardeau County and the City of Jackson, thanks to a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Emergency Solutions Grant program. The grant, from the Missouri Housing Development Commission in the amount of $194,250, went to several area organizations. The Community Caring Council received $67,500 for Homeless Prevention and Community Caring Council Social Worker Jaime Ludwig tells KZIM/KSIM funds will assist in transitioning eligible participants into permanent housing. Eligible individuals must meet HUD’s definition of “literally homeless” or “at imminent risk of homelessness”, and have meet income below specific requirements.
