Caruthersville’s former Police Chief’s co-conspirator faces up to 7-years in state prison after pleading guilty this week to forgery! 41-year-old Chris Riggs was charged October 5th, 2011, with 24 counts of forgery and one count of felony stealing after an investigation by the Highway Patrol. Riggs allegedly forged the signature of 41-year-old Officer Marcus Hopkins on over 25-thousand-dollars in checks for the purpose of cashing them. The checks were intended for the Caruthersville Criminal Investigation Fund. Hopkins denied giving Riggs permission to sign his name and resigned his post. Hopkins pled guilty Wednesday to one felony count of forgery. He will be sentenced September 12th before Judge Stephen Sharp in Kennett. Riggs new court date before Judge Sharp is pending.
