Cape Girardeau man will return to court in May for first degree murder charges

Apr 08, 2013 -- 7:03pm

A Cape Girardeau man charged with two counts of first-degree murder has received more time for his attorney to prepare his defense.  22-year-old Kenneth Dewayne Bell Jr. appeared with his attorney today/Monday at the Cape Girardeau County Courthouse before Circuit Judge Benjamin Lewis during a review of his case. Lewis gave Bell’s attorney until May 13.  Bell faces two counts of first-degree murder and a charge of armed criminal action in connection with the Feb. 7 shooting deaths of 43-year-old Shannon James and 39-year-old Misty Cole in an apartment on South Pacific in Cape. Bell pled not guilty to the charges in March, and he is being held in the Cape Girardeau County Jail in lieu of $2.5 million cash or surety bond.
