An indigent man arrested in January remains in the custody of the Cape Girardeau County Sherriff’s office, pending his hiring of counsel. January 19th, a victim reported to a Cape Girardeau police that he was robbed by a man with a box cutter, describing the accused and his vehicle. When the reporting officer returned to the police station, he observed the suspect, already in the custody of another officer. 21-year-old Justin Patterson was charged with attempted robbery, felonious restraint, armed criminal action and DWI, and remains jailed on $75,000 bond. Judge Ben Lewis has given Patterson until the 22nd to secure counsel in his case, after the public defender was withdrawn at the Patterson’s request.
