The Cape Girardeau police are stepping up communications through social media. The Cape Girardeau Police department officially signed up for Twitter Wednesday! Officer Darin Hickey says the department found a need for the social media site to allow citizens quicker, more reliable knowledge about different occurrences in our community. Unlike Facebook, the department’s Twitter account will not be monitored for direct messages, but be used for getting important, time sensitive information out to the public. Hickey cites examples like road or lane closure due to a traffic crash, a crime where a suspect could be in a particular area of town. You can follow them on Twitter at @CapePolice.
