You can help students in Africa with your leftover school supplies!

May 01, 2013 -- 5:27pm

An organization based out of Branson will be at a Southeast Missouri school Thursday.  Generation Next is a non-profit founded by high school junior Riley Banks, who will be visiting Kelso C-7 school in New Hamburg.  Banks will share her story of visiting Kenya, Africa, teaching children to write words in English, and she tells KZIM-KSIM what she experienced.

Kelso C-7 PTO officer Debbie Reischman learned of Generation Next, and tells KZIM-KSIM she contacted them because of all the school supplies that they 'toss out' at the end of the year.

Reischman says that they will be taking donations at the school, but you can help too!  Leftover school supplies can be dropped off in Cape Girardeau at Simply Swirled, across from Doctor’s Park, and at Kids Stop in the Town Plaza.  Donations need to be made by the end of May, as the Banks next trip to Kenya is June 11th.  To learn more, check out generationnextcares.org.
