A Saturday night accident on U.S. 60 just inside Dexter city limits sent two to the hospital and has police looking for the driver they think is responsible. Anna Edwards of Bloomfield was struck in the rear at 9pm as she was westbound on U.S. 60. The collision caused both vehicles to leave the road. Edwards managed to steer back onto the highway where her car overturned, causing her to be ejected. Her husband, C.G. Edwards, was a passenger. Both received serious injuries. The driver of the second vehicle never regained control of his vehicle, crossing through the median and the eastbound lanes of U.S. 60, traveling about 70 yards into a field on the south side of the highway before coming to rest. Authorities say he fled before they arrived. Anna Edwards was airlifted to a Cape Girardeau hospital and then transferred to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Her husband was taken to a Cape Girardeau hospital. Family members said both are improving. If you have information you are asked to call your local law enforcement.
