Hearnes student poems to be published for their poetry

May 10, 2013 -- 10:06am

Thirteen students at Warren E. Hearnes in East Prairie were chosen to be published in the 2013 edition of the "Young American Poetry Digest," sponsored by the National Schools Project.  Students of all ages submitted poetry to this national project, and a panel of educators evaluated the overall quality of the poems based on student's age and grade level. They also took into consideration: creativity, age-appropriate language, sensory and figurative images, structure, and poetic techniques.  A copy of the published book will be available at the Hearnes library when it is released in the fall. The students' participation in the national contest was made possible by 4th Grade teacher Jayna Holley, Librarian Michelle Anthuis, and 5th Grade teacher Carla Kelley.
