Live music in Cape will provide much needed assistance for Oklahoma tornado victims

Jun 13, 2013 -- 7:10am

Local musicians came together for tornado relief efforts.  The “Music for Moore” event Wednesday to help victims of the May 20 tornado in Moore, Okla., at Schnucks in Cape Girardeau featured area performers playing live from 9am until 9pm.  Organizer Les Lindy says he doesn’t recall an event like this in our area, but felt compelled to help those struggling to recover.  Schnucks, the Southeast Missouri chapter of the American Red Cross, and Mississippi River Radio were sponsors, as well as the local talent.   Executive director of financial development Sara Gerau says they are grateful that Lindy and the other musicians chose us to partner with the Red Cross. The EF5 tornado left 24 people dead, seven of whom were students at an elementary school. With over 1,200 homes reported as damaged or destroyed, relief efforts have only just begun. We’ll have to total tally on funds raised in the news at 5 on Thursday.
