The Illinois State Police announced enforcement results of the work zone safety project, worked on June 3 in Union County. A total of 1 citation and 5 written warnings were issued. There were no citations issued for occupant restraint violations; 1 citation for speeding; no citations for cell phone use. A person found guilty of speeding in a construction zone could be fined a minimum of $375. A second and subsequent offense could result in a $1,000 fine and a 90-day driver’s license suspension. In addition, a driver who injures or kills a worker is subject to a maximum $10,000 fine and 14 years imprisonment. These patrols are worked in and around construction zones and are designed to promote a safer atmosphere for the workers, as well as other motorists. Officers working the details concentrate their enforcement efforts on individuals exceeding the posted speed limit in the construction zone. This project is funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
