Jun 18, 2013 -- 7:00pm

The City of Cape Girardeau was subject to flash flooding Monday after several inches of rain fell in a matter of hours.  There were multiple calls to the 911 center for motorists trapped in their vehicles with swift water rising.  Crews responded to areas mainly in the western portion of Cape, and public works employees were dispatched to erect barricades in flooded intersections and across roadways.  One victim was rescued from drowning at the intersection of South Kingshighway and Bloomfield Road.  The Cape Girardeau Fire Department reports that as many as ten victims were removed from their vehicles and as many as 25 were observed in the water.
