After years of absence due to a sour economy, the days of steamboat cruises stopping are back! The newly refurbished American Queen will dock Tuesday for four hours along the floodwall in downtown New Madrid. It is carrying over 300 passengers. The Queen started its 7-day trip in Louisville August 3rd and will end this Friday in Vicksburg, Mississippi. New Madrid Chamber of Commerce executive director Christina McWaters tells KZIM KSIM they are excited to welcome the Queen to town! McWaters says the air-conditioned buses will make stops at all the historic sites in New Madrid like the Higgerson School and Hunter-Dawson House. This cruise has already stopped in Paducah and will be in Memphis later this week. It has a capacity of 436 passengers. The American Queen will make a visit to Cape in early September and mid-November.
