Upcoming free immunization could save you a few bucks when sending your kids back to school

Jul 02, 2013 -- 3:15pm

The Cape Girardeau County Public health Center received 2-thousand doses of T-Dap or tetanus-diptheria-pertussis vaccinations to distribute to YOU for FREE! Clinics are set up throughout July to accommodate. Director Jane Wernsman says these are for people eleven years old through seniors, plus it is required to have your incoming eighth grade students vaccinated to attend public schools. She tells KZIM KSIM why adults should consider getting the TDAP as a booster…A few years ago it was discovered that as we age our immunity begins to weaken so we can be "carriers" or even get a mild case of pertussis. But we could still be contagious to those who are not protected (like tiny infants). So the pertussis was added back into the vaccine. Those under 18 will need parental consent. There is no painful reaction to the shot except inflammation at the injection site and sore muscle in the arm. The clinics are as follows:

·         July 10 – Arena Building 8:30am to 1pm

·         July 15 – Jackson American Legion Hall 9am to 6pm

·         July 17 – Delta Community Center 9am to 3pm

·         July 26 – Osage Center 1pm to 6pm

·         Aug 2 – Cape Fire Station #2 10am to 6pm

·         Aug 9 Jackson Fire Station #1 10am to 6pm

You do NOT need to show proof of county residency or income.
