The Dorena-Hickman Ferry is back open after it was forced to shut down for over a month thanks to the low water conditions on the Mississippi River. The shuttle ceased operations June 23rd. It resumed service Wednesday at 1 PM after recent dredging of the Hickman, Kentucky, harbor allowed the ferry to access the dock. Work on the Missouri side over the past few days brought a temporary ramp system. But Captain Ed Floyd tells KZIM KSIM the low River still won’t allow him to transport SEMI trucks until further notice. Floyd says they still need about a 2-foot rise in the River to be able to fully re-open to all vehicles. The Mississippi is only forecast to rise by a foot over the next two days but then fall back again by next week. You can follow the progress at www-dot-dorena-hickmanferryboat-dot-com.
