Jul 25, 2013 -- 5:52am

The state presented evidence Wednesday against a Cape Girardeau man accused of shooting his wife and son to death before turning the gun on himself. 48-year old George Joseph appeared in Cape County Court before Judge Gary Kamp on two counts of first-degree murder and one count of armed criminal action in connection with the May 30th shooting deaths of his wife, Mary, and 18-year-old son Matthew. According to the probable-cause affidavit, Joseph admitted to police that he killed his family, and then shot himself in the head. Several people testified in the hearing Wednesday regarding Joseph’s financial issues, his admission to being investigated by the FBI and IRS prior to the killings, and his alleged confession.  Joseph will be bound over to Division 1 Circuit Court and is scheduled to appear before Judge William Syler on August 5th.
