A former Bollinger County deputy sheriff is going to trial for allegedly shooting a dog three times during a domestic dispute call in February 2011. 36-year-old Kelley Barks of Marble Hill is going to trial today for misdemeanor animal abuse in Cape County Court on a change of venue. Barks allegedly shot the Chihuahua after it bit her. She claims she was instructed to kill it by the Bollinger County veterinarian. Barks pled not guilty in March. She resigned her position and is seeking civil damages against the Bollinger County Sheriff’s department. Barks faces up to one year in county jail and or a fine if convicted.
