Gov. Jay Nixon today announced his appointments to the State Committee for Social Workers. The appointees will be subject to confirmation by the Missouri Senate.
The Governor has appointed Sharon E. Sorrell, of Poplar Bluff; and reappointed Kathie A. Miller, of Dexter. The State Committee for Social Workers protects Missourians through the licensing of licensed clinical social workers and baccalaureate social workers and assessing their competence to practice, and investigates all complaints against its licensees in a fair and equitable manner.
A licensed clinical social worker, Miller is an instructor for the Social Work Department at Southeast Missouri State University and has served as a member of the National Association of Social Workers since 1990. The Governor has reappointed her for a term ending Oct. 23, 2016.
Sorrell is a licensed clinical social worker who currently is employed by the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff. The Governor has appointed her for a term ending Oct. 23, 2015.
