After hundreds of hay bales caught fire early Thursday morning in Cape Girardeau County, East County Fire Protection District officials say the only thing left to do now is let them "burn out." Assistant fire chief Kelly Allen says crews responded to the call just before 5:30 am about a fire at the intersection of county roads 635 and 637. Allen said about 400 bales burned. The cause is still being investigated. No injuries or other property damage was reported. County Road 635 was closed early Thursday morning for about an hour.
