Keep Cape Safe has collected more than needed signatures towards referendum

Aug 16, 2012 -- 2:57pm

Although it won’t make it to the general elections ballot in November the ban on urban deer hunting in Cape Girardeau can still go before voters.  As of Wednesday Keep Cape Safe an affiliation of Cape Friends of Wildlife had collected and notarized more than 37-hundred signatures.  Group Director Stephen Stigers tells KZIM-KSIM they will make sure everything is in place before moving forward. Stigers adds he is very pleased with the response and will collect the remaining petitions at tonight’s meeting.  The measure can’t make the November ballot because the Secretary of State must approve the ballot by the 28th which isn’t enough time.  If the council does not resend their decision it will go to special election vote.
