Sep 23, 2013 -- 9:00am

A Matthews man in jail for allegedly molesting a child has been declared fit to stand trial. 66-year-old Jewel Gross of Matthews is charged with five counts of Child Molestation. On January 6th, 2012 the mother of a seven-year-old girl reported to DPS Officers that her daughter had been inappropriately touched by her grandmother's boyfriend.  Reportedly the seven-year-old would occasionally sleep with the man while spending the night with her grandmother.  A forensic interview of the child with the Beacon Health Center revealed the abuse. Gross pled not guilty and had his case shifted to Jackson.  Judge Benjamin Lewis authorized a mental examination, and Gross was found capable of understanding and assisting in his own defense.  Gross remains in custody on a 100-thousand dollar bond. Gross’ trial date is scheduled to be set today.  He will appear before Judge Lewis.
