Two people were seriously injured after their vehicle was hit by a train in Butler County Saturday afternoon. Missouri Highway Patrol reports indicate it happened around 1:30 on County Road 321, 1 mile north of Harviell. 25-year old Dustin G. Putman of Poplar Bluff apparently drove his truck into the path of a train. He and his passenger, 24-year old Tricia Ellis of Poplar Bluff, were both thrown from the vehicle. Putman was flown to Memphis and Ellis was flown to St. Francis Medical center. Neither was wearing seatbelts. The railroad crossing was reportedly marked with two crossing markers but had no electric signs and no stop arms.
