Sep 30, 2013 -- 12:05pm

A Mississippi County man was sentenced Monday in the Circuit Court of Judge David Dolan.  27-year-old Jeff Hemphill, of Wyatt, was found guilty after a jury trial on August 23 of two counts of assault, two charges of child abuse and two charges of endangering the welfare of a child.  The charges stem from incidents in late December 2011, when Hemphill's three-month-old daughter was seen by a doctor for a lump on her chest.  During the baby's treatment, the doctor discovered that she had multiple fractures including a fractured right clavicle, five fractured ribs and a fractured right femur.  Hemphill was sentenced to 10 years in the Department of Corrections on the two assault in the first degree charges, 7 years for the two abuse of a child charges, on the two endangering the welfare of a child charges, he was sentenced to seven years.
