The Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center, 1080 S. Silver Springs Road, joined an elite group of schools recently when its HVAC-R (heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration) program was granted renewal of its accreditation by HVAC Excellence, a not-for-profit organization that has served the industry since 1994.
"It's one of the goals we have here, is to try to make sure our programming meets a national accreditation standard, if there is one within that program," and this is a national accreditation, director Rich Payne said.
The HVAC-R program is run by CTC instructor Fred Brown. The two-year program serves 15 to 18 students, from high school juniors to adults. It is popular with students working toward an associate degree in the HVAC field because 36 credit hours can be earned and expanded through Southeast Missouri State University or Mineral Area College.
The Career and Technology Center works with higher education partners to provide affordable access to postsecondary education. Additional information is available at 334-0826 or capectc.org.
