Aug 23, 2012 -- 4:27pm

A Southeast Missouri man facing charges of second-degree murder in the death of his 1-month-old son is given a public defender.  23-year-old Kade Stringfellow of Portageville is charged in the death of Karson Stringfellow.  The baby was injured July 16th and flown to a St. Louis hospital, where doctors found he had a severe brain injury, four rib fractures, bleeding in the eyes and other injuries.  Karson died two days later.  The St. Louis Children's Hospital doctor who treated Karson told police that he suspected abuse.  Kade is being held at New Madrid County Jail.  He appeared Thursday before Judge Charles Spittler, was assigned a public defender, and has a hearing September 6th.
