22-year-old Matthew Carmack of Sikeston, who was pled guilty in August to elder abuse, has been sentenced. On May 31st, Sikeston DPS Officers were called to Marian Street in reference to elder abuse. Carmack allegedly left the residence in a vehicle; officers located the suspect not far from the home and detained him. The victim reported that her grandson pushed and choked her after becoming angry over $40. A neighbor ran to the victim’s aid when the she sounded the car alarm to summon help. The 66-year-old victim said her neck was hurting and officers witnessed red marks around her neck, and bruising on the victim from an apparent struggle. Carmack was arrested and later charged with Domestic Assault 2nd Degree through the Scott County Court. He has been sentenced to five years supervised probation for his crime.
