Cape Girardeau anti-deer hunting group Keep Cape Safe has turned in their petition signatures calling for the city’s first ever referendum. The group only needed 2-thousand 4-hundred-46 signatures but nearly doubled that with more than 4-thousand collected and notarized. The council rejected an emergency measure that would put the issue on the November ballot. Keep Cape Safe Spokesman Stephen Stigers tells KZIM-KSIM this gives the city council another chance to review their decision. County Clerk Kara Clark Summers will review the signatures for verification before an official certification can be given. If approved the petition will suspend the ordinance that was approved last month. If they don’t resend their decision the council will put the issue to a special election vote.
