Diabetes Awareness Month is to highlight not only that 26 million Americans have the disease, but to also work to make you aware of ways to prevent anyone in your family from getting it—as some forms are preventable. Southeast Hospital Diabetes Center educator Janet Stewart suggests that you can do some creative things with food to get kids to eat their veggies, like building a “veggie man” or even letting kids play with their food. Stewart tells KZIM-KSIM that educating kids early and helping them make good food choices when they are not with you is the key. Stewart stresses that some forms of diabetes can be prevented in adults and children with a healthy eating habits, activity and maintaining your weight.
