A Cobden man facing charges connected to a church theft in Carbondale is scheduled to be back in court today. 32-year-old former Pastor Joshua Swain of Cobden was charged with felony theft from a place of worship and felony aggravated identity theft—both totaling $100,000. According to the State Attorney’s Office, Swain is accused of theft from The View Church on Giant Road in Carbondale from 2011 to 2013. He allegedly also used the name of a congregation member to withdraw money from a bank. He was arrested on July 26th. Swain paid his $10,000 reduced bond in August, and he is scheduled to be back in court Monday.
