41-year-old Billy Young pled not guilty charges of assault and robbery in relation to incident with an elderly man on Thursday, and waved a formal arraignment. Earlier this month, Poplar Bluff Police officers responded to the 2500 block of Bedoll Avenue in reference to a robbery complaint. 89-year-old Lloyd Surber reported that he was beaten and robbed by a white male suspect. Surber said the white male knocked at his front door, claimed that his vehicle broke down, and he asked to use the phone to call for help. Surber invited the suspect into his home and allowed him to use the phone. After a brief conversation, the suspect attacked Surber; knocked him to the floor; and took his wallet, and fled. He was taken into custody and charged with Robbery 1st degree and Assault 1st degree. He is now being held on a $250,000.00 bond in the Butler County Jail, and is scheduled to appear again on December 5th.
