After a summer like ours will you welcome a cold winter? The Almanac makes its 16 month predictions!

Aug 29, 2012 -- 5:05pm

With near record drought and record heat southeast Missourians are exhausted… but will you welcome a harsh winter? Philom with the Farmer’s Almanac Peter Geiger says you don’t have a choice and you better buy an insulated jacket! We are in zone four for the prediction center at the Farmer’s Almanac and they predicted this hot, dry summer over a year ago. Geiger tells KZIM KSIM for winter of 2012 he sees plenty of moisture… especially in January. He expects cooler than normal temperatures with a mix of snow, sleet, rain and wild storms. The swings will be strong and long mid winter. Geiger sees 2 or even 3 major storms for us. The good news is Geiger sees a more normal summer in 2013. The boot heel will have the harshest weather and the northwest the snowiest. SE Missouri is right on the line of demarcation so we will get a mixed bag of conditions. The almanac is available everywhere – look for the orange and green cover. You will find natural tips on everything from protecting your pet from fleas to when to plan your wedding!
