A Jackson man has a preliminary hearing after a shootout with police

Aug 29, 2012 -- 2:29pm

A Jackson man who cause a major scare for allegedly shooting at his wife and then turning the gun on police in June will go before a judge this week.  46-year-old Lawrence Guthrie is charged with three counts of assault on a law officer and one count of domestic assault.  Guthrie's wife called 9-1-1 June 13th to report a domestic assault that involved shots being fired.  Guthrie fled into a wooded lot on Primrose Lane and allegedly fired shots from a rifle at police, before he was subdued.  Judge Gary Kamp will decide if there is enough evidence to move the case to trial at his preliminary hearing Thursday morning in Jackson.  Guthrie faces up to three life sentences if convicted.  His wife required medical treatment after he allegedly punched and kicked her.
