Gov. Nixon announces grants to fund projects in SEMO

Gov. Jay Nixon says over $700 thousand in grants from the Delta Regional Authority (DRA) will help several communities in southeast Missouri move forward with infrastructure improvement and workforce development projects. The seven projects designed to grow the region’s economy and create or retain jobs.  Some of them are:  $200,000 for a rail siding expansion project in Pemiscot County; $100,000 for a railway expansion project in Scott City, with two rail spurs and new tracks to provide additional capacity local industry for loading, unloading, switching and holding cars at the SEMO Port;  over $24,500 for the iLearn Project in Sikeston in cooperation with the Sikeston Public Schools; and $7,481 for Operation Jump Start in Butler, Carter, Ripley and Wayne counties to provide entrepreneurial training through the Douglas C. Greene Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
