Jan 16, 2014 -- 4:30pm

(AP)  A convicted drug trafficker in South Texas has been sentenced to 30 years in prison in a cocaine case with links to Illinois, Florida and Missouri. A federal judge in Del Rio on Wednesday sentenced 27-year-old Lauro Beltran of San Antonio. Beltran forfeited more than $578,000 found in a vehicle he was driving during his March 2011 arrest in Missouri. A jury last July convicted Beltran of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine. Prosecutors say he was involved in a ring that distributed more than 300 pounds of cocaine since 2011. Investigators say Beltran recruited carriers to move cocaine from Mexico into the U.S. for distribution in areas including Chicago and Miami.
