Ameren pledges to hire 200 veterans and military spouses by 2017

Sep 06, 2012 -- 12:52pm

Ameren Corporation is following the request of First Lady Michelle Obama for more private sector businesses to collectively hire or train 100-thousand unemployed veterans by 2013.  The utility company announced this week they pledge to bring on 200 new veterans and military spouses over the next five years.  Through the first eight months of this year, 10-percent of Ameren’s new hires have been military vets.  They have 93-hundred employees in Illinois and Missouri and more than 600 of those are veterans.  Human resources supervisor Betsey Miller tells KZIM KSIM they believe these people fill an important need for the company.  Miller says they have created a special page on their company website for military veterans seeking employment at www-dot-ameren-dot-com.  Ameren was listed this year as one of the top-60 military-friendly companies by G-I Jobs Magazine.
