Organizers are in the middle of planning for the annual Special Olympics Missouri state fall games, set to take place in Cape the weekend of October 12th. Over 12-hundred athletes and coaches are scheduled to compete in bocce, flag football, golf, tennis, and softball events over the three-day period. They will use venues at Shawnee Park, Jaycees golf course, Southeast Missouri State, and Arena Park. State coordinator Mandi Steward tells KZIM KSIM they still need help to make this a big hit in five weeks. Steward says this is the third of a four-year contract to bring these events to Cape. They will re-evaluate the schedule and location next year and decide if the city will host in the future. Last summer, Cape hosted the Missouri Special Olympics outdoor championships in August.
